TAROT READING
As we celebrate the first fruits of harvest this month, let's take
a step back and think about what creates harvest - labor, or service. Just as a gardener must plant seeds and work in
her plot to harvest herbs, fruits, and vegetables from her garden, we must
plan and serve in order to reach our goals of healthy community.
This card shows a harvest of various grains, an
abundance of nourishment in
many forms - rice
and millet from the Orient, corn from the Americas, wheat
from Russia, and
so on. Each is different from the others, with its own flavor and scent,
but all are staple foods of the
countries in which they are grown, and
a core part of the culture and society
of those countries. Similarly, we as individuals are very different, but together |

we create our culture and society as a whole.
The grains do not just grow; they must be planted, tended, and harvested. Healthy communities do not just grow; they must be intended, planned, and maintained by people willing to contribute their time, talents, and passion to create and to progress, individually and as a whole.
Without the service of individuals working together, a house is only a structure, a city is only a geographical statistic. Friends or family work together to create a home; families and neighbors work together to create a community. If everyone looks out only for their own interests, our houses and our cities become boxes and blocks of isolation and loneliness.
So we, with the industry symbolized by the mouse in the card, can do our part to work with the people in our lives to create homes and societies which provide shelter, nourishment, and support, and to help us grow as individuals and to progress as a society .
